Happy Birthday President Monson! Our prophet will be turning 83 on August 21st. Our primary will mark the occasion with our own party. Children will learn celebration traditions from around the world and also learn about our prophet. Join us for the festivities on Saturday, August, 21st from 9:30-11:00 at the church. Cake and ice-cream will be served.

As the children arrived, we played "hot potato." The person that ended up with the potato unwrapped one layer to find another layer and also a fun fact about President Monson. After the game, we read about President Monson's ideal birthday wish and shared some ideas that other children had done to be of service.

At the end of the activity we had a paper with a picture of a balloon, the quote about President Monson's ideal birthday gift being "Find someone who is having a hard time, or is ill, or lonely, and do something for them" (paraphrase). The children were encouraged to do something kind and leave the balloon behind.

One of our four stations: Mexico! The kids learned about Mexican parties, sang Feliz Cumpleanos, and learned some other traditions.

The highlight, though, was making pinatas!

We ended up with eight pinatas by the end of the activity. All which we (the leaders) now have to complete!

We hope to break the pinatas at our Halloween activity. We'll see how many actually get completed!

Next country: Poland!

Sister Williams told some fun stories from her mission. There was a day when all the boys could throw water on all the girls (I didn't hear if it was a national holiday). Then, the next day, all the girls could throw water on all the boys.

The kids learned some other cool things about Poland and then learned "Head, Sholders, Knees, and Toes" In Polish.

Then, off to Korea!

In Korea, the books open with the spin on the right side, instead of the left side! The kids learned fun things about Korea and celebrations and listened to some music.

Emily Townsend agreed to model a Korean dress.

At the end, the kids all tried some Korean snacks with chop sticks. I don't hink a single one liked the "cheese puffs," but most liked the strawberry dessert snack.

Last stop on our world tour: Russia!

First, the kids learned about Russian traditions and saw some Russian items.

Then, they made their own paper nesting dolls. They turned out great.

Finally, it was time for cake and ice-cream. We decided at the last minutes to set up tables. Thanks to the help of some of the parents, we were still able to pull it off.

The cake I purchased was 90 or so servings. After the 53-55 kids, the helpers and a few of the adults had cake, there were only five small pieces left!
I think this is the most we have had at a primary activity since we've lived here. We are growing like crazy! For the last
seven or so weeks, we have had a new family move in with kids. We now have 29 on the nursery roster and both Sr. and Jr. primary are bursting out of the primary room. Wow! It's great!
