Party time!

The invitations for Brayden and Kylee's birthday party.  It was so fun to have Shelly here to work on these with me.  Brayden's is a Mario mushroom-- just in case you aren't familiar with the Mario Brothers' games.

The cakes. Brayden's is covered completely with fondant.  This is the first time I made my own fondant and I must say store bought fondant is easier to work with.  But this fondant tastes better than Wilton, for sure!

Kylee's cake is chocolate with fondant flowers and party-favor rings as the center of each flower.  The crown also lights up.  Totally Kylee!

Truly the best chocolate cake recipe:

1 Chocolate Cake Mix (any kind, I've used chocolate fudge, Swiss chocolate, milk chocolate)
1 C Mini Chocolate Chips
1 C Sour Cream
1 Pkg. of Chocolate Pudding (small box 3.5 oz.)

Prepare cake as directed on box and add sour cream, pudding and chocolate chips. Pour into 2 9-inch round pans. Bake as directed on box (you might need to add a minute or 2 to the baking time because of the added sour cream and pudding). Place on wire rack to cool.

Equally Impressive Chocolate Frosting

1 C butter at room temperature
3 oz. 100% cocoa chocolate bar or squares
4-5 C Powered Sugar
Milk (about 1-2 Table spoons)

Chop the chocolate, then place in double broiler until melted (bowl over a pan of water on the stove). Cream together butter, chocolate, and 4 cups of powered sugar, add milk as needed for desired consistency. Combine until creamy, continue to add powered sugar and milk until it is the consistency and taste that you want. Garnish with chocolate curls, if desired.

The Party!  Brayden and Kylee both had several friends that couldn't make it (I guess that's the result of having a party during vacation season) but several did make it.  Brayden's friends included Memphis, Jonah, Ella, and Logan.  Kylee's friends included Evelyn, Becca, and Lily.  I was so grateful to Shelly.  This was the first party I've done without Taylor and it was so nice to have her help.
