Road trip to Utah

After Brayden's baptism, my parents flew home to Utah and took Brayden, Kylee, and Mikayla with them.  Taylor, Shelly and I then loaded up the van to follow.  We had lots of adventures along the way!

Taylor likes to start a road trip with his traditional Egg McMuffin.  We don't eat them often but the occasion called for it, so after a few hours of early morning travel we stopped to indulge.  We went in to place our order and then headed back to the car.  Fortunately, I unwrapped the food while we were still in the parking lot and realized we had been given ham muffins rather than sausage.  I went back in to have the problem fixed and spoke with the manager.  She took the sandwiches from me and handed them to the guy on the line with a short explanation.  The guy opened our sandwiches, took out the ham, put it back in the warming tray, put sausages on our sandwiches, somewhat crinkled the paper closed, and handed the food back to the manger, who handed it back to me.  Go Mc'Ds!

At lunch, we stopped in a small town and made a visit to the local walmart.  It had a small town feel, which I couldn't really put my finger on it until we stumbled on the watermelons.  In the back of the store.  In the fabric section.  I guess the produce area was just plum full.

Along the road, a traveler can see all sorts of signs.  My favorites in Colorado went something like this: "Truckers, don't be fooled!" followed by a warning about steep roads.  Several  miles later "Truckers, you're not done yet!"  followed by another warning.

We saw signs for the world's largest prairie dog and other wanna-be tourist traps.  At one point, we saw a hand painted sign advertising "The Drunken Brethren Church."  Shortly afterward, all the center lines on the road were crooked--some of them really crooked.  It's not easy to get of picture of the road lines while driving at freeway speeds--but you can see it a little in this shot.

One of the highlights was the few minutes we were able to spend walking in Vail Colorado.  Here are a few pictures:
